The sun may be setting on The Summer I Turned Pretty series, but for fans of Jenny Han’s beloved coming-of-age story, a new chapter is just beginning. Following the emotional season 3 finale, Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video have officially announced that a feature-length film is in development, ensuring that Belly Conklin’s journey will continue on the big screen.
In a joint statement, Courtenay Valenti, head of film at Amazon MGM Studios, and Vernon Sanders, Global Head of Television at Prime Video, praised the show’s impact and teased the next phase of the franchise:
“The Summer I Turned Pretty has struck a chord with audiences everywhere, creating moments of joy, nostalgia, and connection that have made it a global sensation. We’re proud of the series’ extraordinary success and couldn’t be more excited to partner again with Jenny Han to bring fans an unforgettable next chapter.”
When Will The Summer I Turned Pretty Movie Arrive?
As of now, no official release date has been confirmed. The news of the film’s development came immediately after the season 3 finale, which means the project is still in its earliest stages.
The official TSITP Instagram account confirmed the announcement, sparking a frenzy among fans. The Today show even teased more updates by commenting, “Talk to you tomorrow morning,” hinting that September 18, 2025, could bring fresh details.
Given the time needed for script development, casting schedules, and production, industry insiders speculate that if the screenplay is completed by the end of 2025, the film could realistically premiere sometime between mid and late 2026.
What Will the Movie Be About?
While exact storylines remain under wraps, Jenny Han author of the bestselling trilogy and showrunner of the series revealed that the film will focus on a pivotal moment in Belly Conklin’s life.
“There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due,” Han shared. “I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”
Fans of the books may already be speculating about which major milestone the film will depict, but for now, Amazon is keeping the details tightly under wraps.
Who’s Returning for the Movie?
Two key faces are already confirmed Lola Tung will reprise her role as Belly, and Christopher Briney will return as Conrad. Their on-screen chemistry has been central to the series’ success, making their involvement essential for the film.
However, questions remain about the rest of the cast. Notably, Gavin Casalegno, who plays Jeremiah, has yet to confirm his return. Likewise, no other supporting actors have been officially announced.
Behind the scenes, Jenny Han is taking an even bigger role in shaping the project. Teaming up with Sarah Kucserka, Han will co-write the screenplay and is also set to direct the film—a major step that ensures the story remains true to her original vision.
What This Means for Fans
With the book trilogy already complete, many thought the end of season 3 might mark the final goodbye to Cousins Beach. Instead, the film promises to give fans one last chance to experience the heartfelt love triangle, nostalgic summer vibes, and bittersweet coming-of-age themes that made the series a global hit.
While the wait for an official release date continues, one thing is clear Belly’s story isn’t over just yet and the next chapter will be bigger than ever.
