Having already tried his hand at football, tennis, and modelling, 23-year-old Romeo Beckham is stepping into a new arena. The son of retired footballer David Beckham and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham is set to make his acting debut in a French tennis-themed romantic drama titled “Forty Love,” due for release later this year.

The film marks the feature directing debut of fashion photographer Pierre-Ange Carlotti and features a notable cast alongside Beckham, including Guillaume Canet and screen legend Catherine Deneuve.

According to Variety, the story centers on a tennis star, played by Paul Kircher of “The Animal Kingdom,” who is on the verge of claiming a major title in Paris. His ambitions, along with his emotions, are thrown into disarray by the arrival of a charismatic new rival played by Beckham. The official synopsis frames the challenge in dramatic terms, describing love as an opponent unlike any the player has faced, a force as thrilling as it is unsettling and far more perilous than anything encountered on the court.

The premise has invited comparisons to recent tennis-driven romances, and early online reactions have been decidedly mixed, with the pairing of a high-profile family name and a heightened synopsis drawing a fair amount of skepticism.

From sport to fashion to film

Romeo previously moved between football and tennis before stepping away from both in 2024 to pursue fashion. He has since worked as a model and brand ambassador for luxury labels including Yves Saint Laurent and Balenciaga.

He also made headlines recently for a less flattering reason, having been fined for using his phone while driving his Porsche 911, with an unrestrained dog also in the vehicle.

The acting announcement comes during an eventful stretch for the Beckham family more broadly. Earlier this year, Romeo’s older brother Brooklyn Beckham publicly criticized their parents, accusing them of controlling him and of disrespecting his wife. He stated plainly that he had no wish to reconcile with his family, framing his comments as standing up for himself for the first time and alleging that his parents had long managed the family’s public narrative through staged social media posts and events. He went on to claim he had witnessed efforts to plant falsehoods in the media at the expense of others, adding that he believed the truth would eventually surface.
