Karol G has a new album on the way. The Colombian pop superstar announced No Me Arrepiento de Sentir Tanto — which translates to I Don’t Regret Feeling So Much — from the stage at Toronto’s Rogers Stadium, confirming an August 7 release. In a recent conversation, she hinted at a moodier, more alternative direction than she has usually explored.
“My biggest struggle is that I like to give too much in every aspect of my life,” the 35-year-old said of the title. “I cry a lot. I’m super sentimental and I’ve hated myself a lot for that. But at the same time, I’d rather suffer because I lived too much — because I loved too much, because I had too much fun — than to not have had those experiences… I’m inviting everyone to be a little more dramatic, a little more extra.”
Where her previous record, Tropicoqueta, sprawled into a multicultural “dream world” that peaked with her Coachella headline set, the new album narrows the lens to her most private moments. “In making this album, I put a lot into being alone,” she said, describing solo hikes in Hawaii last November. “I learned a lot about enjoying my solitude — in this industry, we are really, really lonely.”
The project’s lead single, the reggaeton anthem “Matadora,” produced by Tainy, arrived at the opening of her Viajando Por El Mundo Tropitour world stadium tour — a lusty contrast to the earlier indie ballad “Después De Ti,” which she wrote with Greg Gonzalez of Cigarettes After Sex.
Above all, she framed the album as an invitation into a more intimate version of herself. “This is an album that opens a door for my fans to a more intimate Carolina,” she said. “I put up little lights, I burn candles and incense. I want people to listen to this new album… in their own rooms, and see what comes up for them.”
