Princess Charlene of Monaco made a rare joint appearance with her younger brother, Gareth Wittstock, at the Pink Ribbon Monaco Gala at the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo. During the evening the siblings helped light up the Place du Casino in pink, marking the start of Pink October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The 48-year-old princess chose an all-white Emporio Armani suit, which she paired with black heels and diamond drop earrings, and posed for photographers with her brother before the illumination. He wore a classic tuxedo with a pink bow tie, a small nod to the cause of the night.
Charlene has been Honorary President of Pink Ribbon Monaco since 2024. The organisation raises awareness of female cancers and funds research and prevention. The palace confirmed that the Place du Casino would not be the only landmark in colour this month, with 24 buildings across the principality to be lit in pink throughout October.
The gala also offered a glimpse of one of the princess’s closest family relationships. Gareth Wittstock moved to Monaco from South Africa after his sister married Prince Albert in 2011. Trained as a computer scientist, he now works as a businessman and is Secretary General of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation.
Charlene, who swam for South Africa at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney before her marriage, set up the foundation in 2012 to promote water safety and prevent drowning among young children, so the siblings already work side by side on her charity. Their outing at the Hôtel de Paris places her other main cause, breast cancer awareness, at the centre of the principality’s autumn calendar, with the pink lights due to stay on across Monaco until the end of the month.
