If your watchlist has a gap where a smart, twisty thriller should be, Furious is here to fill it. The new eight-episode series on Hulu and Disney+ has arrived to strong reviews as a sharp, propulsive drama about female rage, told through three complicated women and a cat-and-mouse chase that keeps tightening.
The story turns on a hidden pattern. When a wealthy man dies in what looks like an overdose, it is former NYPD homicide cop Alice Black — now working the bottom rung of the FBI after exposing corruption in her old department — who spots that something is off. She finds herself locked in a game with Catherine, a quick-witted serial killer who targets men connected to exploitation and abuse, and the closer Alice gets, the bigger the questions become about justice, revenge and trauma.
The cast is a big part of the draw. Shameless star Emmy Rossum plays Alice, with Lola Petticrew as the chillingly cool Catherine, and Quincy Tyler Bernstine and Jake Lacy (The White Lotus) rounding out the ensemble. It comes from creator Elizabeth Meriwether, of Dying for Sex and The Dropout, and while it was reportedly inspired by the 1987 film Black Widow, it feels thoroughly modern, with violence against women and the post-Epstein reckoning running through its core.
Critics have responded. The Guardian handed it four stars and called it “enormously entertaining TV that demands you pay attention” and, tellingly, “a must-see for Killing Eve fans,” while NME praised the way it “flips the overworked serial killer genre on its head.” The series premiered with its first three episodes, with new ones dropping every Monday — which makes it the rare binge that also gives you something to look forward to each week.
