Fans of the A Court of Thorns and Roses series, known to readers as ACOTAR, have spent the better part of the five years since the last book theorizing, debating and biting their nails to the quick. Author Sarah J. Maas, it turns out, has been writing, and there is now confirmation of what she has been working on.
The sixth ACOTAR book, A Court of Splintered Harmony, will be released on October 27, 2026, and the seventh, A Court of Forgotten Melody, follows on January 12, 2027. A fourth book, or part, will come after that. “It’s been a long time coming,” Maas says. “It took me a long time to write.” She first broke the news on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, in a rare and candid interview.
The stakes for the announcement are considerable. Maas is the author of three interlocking series, Throne of Glass, A Court of Thorns and Roses and Crescent City, that together form a global phenomenon, selling more than 70 million copies in English since she published her first Throne of Glass novel in 2012.
Set in worlds of magic, Fae and fated mates, all three series are led by powerful female heroines, among them Celaena Sardothien, Feyre Archeron, Nesta Archeron and Bryce Quinlan, each setting out to save her respective world. Attentive readers have long noticed Easter eggs suggesting the worlds may not be siloed at all, raising the tantalizing possibility that the coming books could finally bring them together.
Within ACOTAR itself, the first three books tell Feyre’s story, the fourth is a wintertime, post-war novella that shifts the series from first to third person, and the fifth, A Court of Silver Flames, follows Feyre’s sister Nesta and her mate Cassian. There is no word yet on whom the newly announced sixth and seventh books will center, a silence that is likely to keep the fandom theorizing right up until October.
