Simu Liu and Allison Hsu are married. The Chinese-Canadian actor, 37, and the music marketing executive, 30, held their wedding in France over the first weekend of October, a source told People, after the celebrity site TMZ first reported the news. The couple had been together for four years.
Liu, best known for leading Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and for his role in Barbie, proposed in Paris in May 2025. Hsu works in digital marketing at the music label Interscope Records. He asked the question with the Eiffel Tower in the background and the setting filled with flowers and candles, and the pair made the engagement public on 11 May with posts on Instagram, where Hsu showed off her diamond ring.
In his own post at the time, Liu promised to choose Hsu forever, from weekends in Paris and day trips to Palm Springs to long nights on set and lazy afternoons on the sofa. Hsu later called the proposal the best day of 2025, while Liu admitted there had been plenty of nerves behind the scenes.
Part of the reason was a plan involving Taylor Swift. Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on 15 December 2025, Liu explained that his fiancée works in the music industry and grew up as a devoted Swift fan, and that the singer’s songs had played a big part in the early days of their relationship. He contacted Swift through her publicist and asked whether she might record a two-second video congratulating him. Two days later the video arrived.
Liu said Hsu was already emotional when he played her the message, and that she broke down completely once Swift appeared on screen. He described the singer’s contribution as the finishing touch to the proposal. The couple first got together in late autumn 2022, and the wedding in France now closes a story that began, fittingly, with a soundtrack.
